When is the best time to visit Georgia?
Late spring and early autumn for Tbilisi and the wine country, when days are warm and nights mild. High summer is hot in Tbilisi, and the Black Sea coast is at its warmest in July and August. Winter is cold in Tbilisi, with nights near freezing from December to February.
Georgia packs very different climates into a small country. Its National Environmental Agency divides it into two main climate regions: the west, on the Black Sea, has a marine subtropical climate, while the east, which includes Tbilisi, is markedly continental, dry subtropical in the lowlands and alpine in the mountains[2].
The two stations below show the difference. Tbilisi gets 511 mm of rain in a year and Kobuleti, on the Black Sea coast, 2,521 mm, five times as much; and Tbilisi's summers are hotter and its winters colder[1].
How warm and wet are Tbilisi and the coast each month?
Tbilisi averages a high of 7.1 °C in January and 31.9 °C in August, with the most rain in May and June. On the coast at Kobuleti, highs run from 10.8 °C to 28.3 °C and rain peaks in September and October, at more than 300 mm a month.

Tbilisi's summer heat is real: the city averages 22 days of 30 °C or more in each of July and August, and 14.2 days a year of 35 °C or more[1]. Its winters are the opposite, with 15.5 nights below freezing in an average January, though snow lies on the ground on only about nine days a year[1].
The coast's rain is heavy rather than frequent. Kobuleti averages 10 days a year with 50 mm or more of rain, most of them from August to December[1]; on these records, June and July are drier than the autumn for a beach trip.
When is the grape harvest?
From September to December. The Georgian National Tourism Administration says rtveli, the grape harvest, starts in September with the Rkatsiteli harvest in Kakheti and ends in December with the Chkhaveri harvest in Guria and Ajara, as different areas harvest at different times.
For a trip from Tbilisi to the vineyards of Kakheti, September and October combine the start of the harvest with Tbilisi's mild autumn: average highs of 26.7 °C and 20.2 °C[3][1]. The tourism administration notes that families as well as wineries make wine, and relatives gather for the harvest[3].
